Paras aika nähdä revontulia

Etkö ole koskaan nähnyt revontulia? Tai haluaisit nähdä revontulia useammin?
Voit kohta suunnata katseen kohti taivasta, koska nyt on hyvä aika vuodesta seurata revontulia ja näillä neuvoilla niitä näkee varmasti. Syksy ja kevät ovat hyvää aikaa revontulien katselemiseen, koska illat ovat pimeitä ja ulkona tarkenee seisoskella pidemmänkin aikaa.

1. Seuraa milloin alueellasi on vahvoja aurinkomyrskyjä 
Parhaat tavat seurata revontuliennusteita: seuraa Facebookissa Aurora Alert by Soft Serve News -sivua ja tallenna kirjanmerkkeihisi Aurora Service http://www.aurora-service.eu/aurora-forecast/ . Näin saat feediisi ilmoitukset minkä vahvuisia aurinkomyrskyjä on parhaillaan ja Aurora Service sivulta voi katsoa livenä, missä revontulet tällä hetkellä näkyvät.

Twitterissä voit myös seurata #revontulet Ilmatieteen laitoksen meteorologien ilmoittelua.
Uutisissa on usein juttua vahvoista aurinkomyrskyistä, mutta suosittelen seuraamaan niitä itse, koska silloin voit nähdä revontulia useammin.

2. Katso sääennuste 
Sään täytyy olla pilvetön, jotta revontulet näkyvät ja kesäkuukausina revontulet eivät tietenkään näy, koska on valoisaa.

3. Jes! Aurinkomyrsky ja pilvetön taivas! Nyt on parasta etsiä paikka, jossa kaupunginvalot eivät valaise taivasta ja mennä sinne myöhään illalla. Paras aika nähdä revontulia on klo 21-01. Joskus käy niin hyvä tuuri, että revontulia voi nähdä myös keskellä kaupunkia. Katselin kerran itse vihreiden valojen liikehdintää Tampereen keskustassa parvekkeelta.

Nyt sitten vaan bongailemaan taivaalta vihreän ja punaisen sävyjä! :) Helsingissä revontulia voi nähdä keskimäärin kerran kuukaudessa. Kilpisjärvellä ja Utsjoella on mahdollista nähdä revontulia kolmena yönä neljästä, jos pilviä ei ole paljon. 

P.S. Paljastan teille, että paikan päällä revontulet eivät näyttäneet yhtä voimakkailta kuin kuvissa. Taivaalla näkyi vihreää haaleasti. Kamera näkee enemmän valoa pitkällä valoitusajalla, kuin ihmisen silmä ja sen takia kamera tallentaa mahtavammat revontulet.

Never seen the northern lights? Or would you like to see them more often? 
You can look up at the sky soon because it's a good time of the year to see northern lights and with these advices you will surely see them. Autumn and spring are a good time to look for northern lights because the nights are dark and it's not as cold outside as in the winter.

1. Track when your area has strong solar flare 
Best ways to follow northern lights forecasts: follow the Aurora Alert by Soft Serve News page on Facebook. This is how you get reportst to your feed how strongs solar flares are now. Another important page is http://www.aurora-service.eu/aurora-forecast/. From the Aurora service page you can watch the live situation where the northern lights are currently appearing. 

2. See the weather forecast 
The weather must be cloudless so that you can see the northern lights and in the summer months the northern lights will not be visible because it is too bright at night. 

3. Yay! Solar flare and cloudless sky! It is now best to look for a place where city lights do not illuminate the sky and go there late in the evening. The best time to see the auroras is at 21p.m to 1 a.m. Sometimes northern lights can be seen in the middle of the city however. I once watched northern lights in center of Tampere on the balcony. 

Now you can go spot green and red shades in the sky! :) In Helsinki the northern lights can be seen on average once a month. Kilpisjärvi and Utsjoki area it is possible to see the them four nights out of five if there are not many clouds.

P.S. I'll let you know that the northern lights didn't look as powerful as in the pictures. The sky was pale green. The camera sees more light than the human eye and because of that the northern lights appear more powerful in the pictures.
